I remember hearing my overjoyed little brother telling ecstatically to my mother ' let us go to heaven right now mother'. Wondering what was happening I went to enquire. I saw my mother’s smiling face hugging my brother and saying 'we have to be very nice and good to attain heaven'. She laughed as my brother went away. My mother was teaching her little son about Allah, heaven, angels; basically about Islam that probably a three year old could comprehend. She told him if he is a good, obedient boy then Allah would bless him with paradise where he would get his favorite toy or chocolate just by the thought. And pat replied her little son which made her smile at his innocence. Yes! It is we who can make our beautiful religion of Islam look beautiful or otherwise by setting examples, with our actions.

Islam propagates and teaches only about peace, love, care, kindness, mercy and the likes. As parents it is a duty of every responsible father and mother to inculcate in their children the true, real value of being a Muslim- the follower of Islam. Home should be the stepping stone of every goodness. We learn from our parents. We seek from them first and then from the rest. There is not a wealthier blessing than to be blessed by valuable faith- filled parents because we grow up seeing them and they leave them in us for us to carry on to the next generation.

Islam is not a tough religion. It is a peace loving, calm religion which in its true aspect advocates every individual to be nice, pious, modest, honest and simply good. We all have our own definitions of being good and nice. But let me remind you, being nice can be that smile on your face or even a kind gesture. How many times and how many hadiths have mentioned the importance of good manners and being nice.  Yet how many of us follow it? I have come across people who pray regularly, women who observe hijab properly but who are rough, arrogant and would not even smile! And I wonder 'what is it that keep people from just smiling at one another?!’ 'Why should I smile first?', ' he/she might think I am too easy to handle if I smile', troubled ego! Are these reasons for not wanting to earn a reward of a Sadaqah? We all know it is not easy to attain Jannah. And how much do we try? Every little good deed we do earns us a positive point. A kind word, a smile, a sacrifice, letting go off ego, giving up in arguments even if you are right; how many of us do it? Today, every individual wants to prove their selves, their worth to each other. People forget that in front of the Lord both the prince and the pauper are alike! We all die and get buried alike. Nobody is granted a fertile land to sleep the ultimate slumber. It is the same for all. We all get resurrected alike. Yet ego, jealousy, competition, rules us. This is not right dear people! We are the ambassadors of our religion. We have to make our non- Muslim friends understand the religion of Allah right if not complete. Prophet SAW taught us to be good and nice to all regardless of their race, class, caste or religion. It is our duty to attract and spread the right information about Islam through our actions as well.

I've often heard my friends say why they don’t believe in observing proper hijab because so-and-so observes hijab but lies, does not offer regular prayer. So what?! I wonder who am I to judge anyone. I've come across extremely modern dressed ladies at malls and shopping centers , not observing hijab at all, come to pray when the Azan is called upon. We as humans, mere creations of the Almighty have no right to judge any creation of the Almighty. Every individual’s ultimate intention is known only to The Almighty.HE knows best and does best. Our faith in our Lord has to be so strong that we should blindly believe that everything occurring in our life is for our own good. How many of us follow this thought?

I've heard stories of people who fight over wealth, positions, money and so on. We are born empty handed and we leave the world empty handed. All we earn are the rewards and punishments of our deeds during our stay in this transit phase of life. We are all entitled to teach our younger ones to be nice, speak polite, be honest, truthful and kind to all. Once these are instilled every growing child will know the way to betterment, to learn, to know and to share. It is small lessons that become the foundation of a grown up, where ever you live, however aged. So teach the younger ones to greet in peace, to recite those easily remembered supplications, to share, care and to be genuine

Another area where we should be careful is in our use of words when we communicate.Words, the right use at the right moment creates magic, in the form of hope, love, care, goodness, modesty, beauty, serenity etc. It makes one happy, thrilled and even beautiful! How wonderful it makes us feel. And words, the wrong use at an unfitting moment creates chaos. Desperation, hurt, tears, wickedness, animosity, hopelessness and sorrow it brings! How much it can hurt. Sometimes I wonder if only people could choose silence instead of breaking hearts. We have to teach our younger ones to speak politely and with affection and care.

It was related on the authority of Abu Hurairah, radiyallahu 'anhu, that the Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam, said:

"Whosoever relieves from a believer some grief pertaining to this world, Allah will relieve from him some grief pertaining to the Hereafter. Whosoever alleviates the difficulties of a needy person who cannot pay his debt, Allah will alleviate his difficulties in both this world and the Hereafter. Whosoever conceals the faults of a Muslim, Allah will conceal his faults in this world and the Hereafter. Allah will aid a servant (of His) so long as the servant aids his brother. Whosoever follows a path to seek knowledge therein, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise. No people gather together in one of the houses of Allah, reciting the Book of Allah and studying it among themselves, except that tranquility descends upon them, mercy covers them, the angels surround them, and Allah makes mention of them amongst those who are in His presence. Whosoever is slowed down by his deeds will not be hastened forward by his lineage." [Muslim]

So, lets all keep these in mind and act accordingly so that our religion is talked for its simplicity and beauty rather than its complexity or misconceptions. Always remember, we are the ambassadors of our beautiful religion.
